Jackson 'Jax' Teller [Charlie Hunnam] - Vice President of SAMCRO (until the end of Season 4) Son of John & Gemma Teller. Father died when he was 15. He and his first (and only love) Tara got together when they were 16. When they were 19 she decided to leave Charming, leaving him behind. Opie Winston and him have been best friends since childhood. Their fathers (John & Piney) started SAMCRO. Jax has two sons. His oldest Abel (with his ex-wife) is raised by Tara as though she is his biological mother. (She has literally been there with him since he was born.) Thomas is his son with Tara (named after his deceased younger brother.)

Clayton 'Clay' Morrow [Ron Perlman] - 'First Nine'. President of SAMCRO (until the end of Season 4) Married to Gemma (Jax's mom). Has a rocky relationship with his step-son both inside and outside of the club. Both of them are very opinionated on how the club should be run. It's quite obvious that Clay resents the pull Jax's deceased father (and former President) has on him and it often influences his way of thinking, causing many of the conflicts and issues he has with his step-son. 

Alexander 'Tig' Trager [Kim Coates] - Sgt of Arms of SAMCRO (until he steps down in Season 4). He's Clay's right hand man that often does all the more dirty deeds. It's no surprise to anyone that knows him that he's a very quirky odd person with some strange habits. He has two daughters that he sees rarely (Dawn & Fawn)

Robert 'Bobby Elvis' Munson [Mark  Boone Junior] - SAMCRO's secretary when the series begins. He seems to be the most grounded neutral character of the entire group. Definitely the go to guy for everyone when they need advice or  have problems. His back story is that he does have a couple ex wives and some kids. When the title of President changed hands his position within the club also changed. By the end of Season 5 (his first season of being Vice President) we see just how the changes have affected him.

Filip 'Chibs' Telford [Tommy Flannigan] - Scottish. Excommunicated from the IRA by Jimmy O'Phelan. Quite close to Jax and Juice. Estranged wife and daughter still live in Ireland (with Jimmy). He spent five months in the Irish armed forces as a medic until he was court marshaled. When a new President takes over SAMCRO he is appointed the Sgt of Arms position.

Piemont 'Piney' Winston [William Lucking] - 'First Nine' Founder of the MC with best friend John Teller. Father to Opie. Has issues with drinking and other health issues. Wants the club to stay the same way he and John had intended. Doesn't like the way things are going under Clay's leadership. Wants to see Jax take over as president of the club.

Harry 'Opie' Winston - Best friends with Jax since childhood. When the series begins he's just been released from Chino after serving 5 years for the club. He has a difficult time readjusting to life outside of prison. Married to the love of his life, Donna. She doesn't like the MC life and wants him to leave it completely and start over for her and the kids. They have a young son and daughter together. After tragedy hits his family it takes him sometime to adjust and finally lets in another although never fully loves her the way he did (and still does) Donna. Although the engagement was long the marriage wasn't. Lyla and her young son become part of his family. He has an estranged relationship with his mother and was raised by his father Piney.

Juan Carlos 'Juice' Ortiz [Theo Rossi] - One of the youngest patched members of the club. He's having a harder time adjusting to the life. Outside pressures and his conscience seem to keep him in constant conflict as the series progresses. He's the go to guy for the club when it comes to computer tech stuff. Theo says his character is "computer smart, idiot socially.

'Happy' Lowman [David 'DL' LaBrava] - Originally from the Tacoma WA charter of SOA. He goes NOMAD when his mother becomes ill. Spends a lot of time in Charming with SAMCRO. Eventually he's voted into SAMCRO. The go to guy when things needs to be done (that may get a little 'messy'). Man of few words, but when he does speak everyone pays attention. Seems to have that kind of presence.

'Big Otto' Delaney [Kurt Sutter] - In Stockton State Prison on death row. Lost many things to SAMCRO while behind bars, including his beloved wife Luann. Originally in for 6 years for 2nd degree murder and GTA. Years were added and eventually life and death for various murders and assaults while in prison.

Lenny 'The Pimp' Janowitz [Sonny Barger] - 'First Nine'. In Stockton State Prison for SAMCRO. Killed three ATF agents. Former Sgt of Arms when John Teller was President.

'Filthy Phil' Russell [Christopher Reed] - Prospect. Often assigned to Gemma and Tara. He seems especially fond of his ''babysitting' duties when it comes to Able & Thomas. He was prospecting in seasons 3&4. The ebeginning of Season 5 he's been 'officially' patched in. (It's not clear why he took so long patching in. Perhaps due to the guys being in prison, throwing off the typical schedule.)

Eric 'Miles' [Frank Potter] - Became a prospect in season 3. Often tasked with watching over one of the 'old ladies' especially Gemma. He's patched in while the crew was serving their 14 month prison term. (Dies in Season 4.)

Herman 'Kozik' [Kenneth Johnson III] - Former Sgt of Arms of the Tacoma Washington charter of SOA. Tig and him have a tense relationship due to some 'mysterious lady' in their past. He's voted in as a transfer to the SAMCRO charter while the crew was in prison despite Tig's disapproval. Former U.S. Marine and ex-junkie. Not much else is known about his back story before. (Dies during 'combat' in Season 4.)

Kip 'Half Sack' Epps [Johnny Lewis] - Prospect. Promising up and coming member of the MC. Had 'left nut' blown off in Iraq. (Hence his nickname.) He becomes involved with former Devil's Tribe 'hang around' Cherry. (Until she has to leave.) He gives up the ultimate sacrifice for the club while protecting Jax's 'old lady' and baby son. Upon his death he's 'patched in' as a SAMCRO member. The cut was laid on his casket during the wake and then said to have been buried with him. (Dies a 'hero' during Season 2.)

George 'Rat Boy' [Niko Nicotera] - Voted in as prospect when Filthy Phil & Shepard were (after 'Half Sack' was killed). Often assigned to Gemma & Tara along with Phil.

Chris 'V-Lin' Von Lin [Walter Wong] - Prospect. We see him when he was assigned to pick up Lyla and her son and she gave him the slip.

Shepard [Leo Fitzpatrick] - Voted to be a prospect when Phil & Miles were. However, he quickly found out during his 'first job' he was not cut out for the MC life. He took off in the middle of the night leaving his cut and Tig's gun behind. We haven't seen him since.
